PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The owner of Pedal Bike Tours in Portland has been ordered to remove a mural tourists love to photograph that reads, “Welcome to America’s Bicycle Capital.” The city says it’s too big. Owner Todd Roll tells KOIN city officials told him he needs a permit, meaning 1,650 square foot mural he and his wife painted in 2012 has to go. And, a new sign can be no larger than 300 square feet.
SISTERS, Ore. (AP) – ODOT crews expect to reopen McKenzie Pass on the old McKenzie Highway on June 16. KVAL reports crews are plowing from both sides – one from the Santiam Pass office and one from Sisters. Snow closes McKenzie Pass for seven months out of the year.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Police say a man groped a 13-year-old girl operating a lemonade stand at Sunday’s Salem-Keizer Lemonade Day. The girl told police the man made sexual comments and groped her after she gave him a drink. She called 911 and police arrested the 51-year-old nearby. KPTV reports he was jailed on a sex abuse charge.
BANKS, Ore. (AP) – Sheriff’s deputies in Washington County are trying to locate two flags believed stolen from a flag pole at a World War II memorial site near the town of Banks. Missing are a U.S. flag and the flag of the Army’s 10th Mountain Division. World War II vet Jim Bray reported the flagpole was bare on April 24.
