36th annual Rhody Run
Eugene’s Trae Jackson won the 36th running of the Rhody Run men’s 10-K Saturday morning with a time of 34:54. anet Stamper Holland won the women’s 10K in 40:53.
Jacob Berkner of Florence won the men’s 5K for the second straight year with a time of 16:14. Raelyn Robinson, also of Florence, won the women’s five-k in 20:39.
Prep Track and Field…
Justin Schaaf qualified for the 1A state meet for the Mapleton Sailors with a second place finish in the 200 meters at the Mountain West District Finals. Chris Free was second in the triple-jump. For the girls, Maddy Frelich will be representing the Sailors. She was second in the javelin.
Siuslaw’s Mack Marbas qualified for the state meet in three events, winning the three-thousand and the 15-hundred at the Far West District meet in Florence.
Marbas also ran a leg on the District Champion four-by-400 relay team that included Seth Campbell; Joe Dotson and Jonathon Peterson.
Peterson qualified for state with a win in the 400 meters; Campbell won the 800; Dotson did it with a second place in the 300-meter hurdle, Mitchell Butler will also compete at the state meet; he was second in the three-thousand.
The defending state champion in the long jump will make a return appearance. Billy Jones won the long jump and finished second in the triple-jump.
For the girls, Ashlee Cole won the discus and the javelin; Mikaela Siegel won the 100-hundred-meter-hurdles to qualify; she was also second in the long jump. Celie Mans was second in two events… the 15-hundred and the three-thousand; Katy Wells was second in the 800. All will compete at the state meet at Eugene’s Hayward Field.
Prep Baseball and Softball
The Siuslaw Vikings backed their way into the next level of post season play on the baseball diamond, despite losing their two final games of the season Friday afternoon in North Bend 6-4 and 12-2. The losses left the Vikings tied for third with South Umpqua and Douglas… but they held tie-breakers over both teams and will face the Cubs in Newport Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Vikings swept North Bend 10-nothing and 12-2 to wrap up the 2014 campaign Friday afternoon in Florence. The wins left Siuslaw Softball with a six-and-12 league record, in fifth place.

College Baseball…
Oregon State took a two-game lead over Washington heading into the final weekend of Pac-12 play with a 2-1 series win in Corvallis. Washington opened with a 4-2 Friday night; the number two Beavers took the second game one-nothing on the strength of a Logan Ice walkoff RBI double in the ninth.
Beaver Ace Ben Wetzler came off a five game suspension to throw a two-hit; three-run shutout win yesterday for the rubber match.
The Oregon Ducks swept UCLA in all three weekend games in Westwood; 2-1; 4-1; and 5-4. Oregon and Oregon State meet in Eugene for a non-league game tomorrow afternoon.
