Double-winner paces Vikings to fifth place finish
The Siuslaw Viking Boys track and field team brought home the fifth place team trophy, but also two individual State Championships from the OSAA Track and Field Finals over the weekend at Hayward Field in Eugene.
Senior Mack Marbas, running for the final time as a Viking, won the men’s three-thousand Friday with a time of 8:42.75. That was the fastest time ever run by a Siuslaw athlete. Marbas went on to win the 15-hundred Saturday with a time of 3:58.47. Billy Jones, defending his 2013 state title in the long jump was third in that event with a leap of 21-feet, 4 ¾ inches.
Viking girls fare well…
The girls didn’t bring home a team trophy, but Mikaela Siegel was second in the 100 meter hurdles, setting a new school record with a time of 15.75 seconds. Ashlee Cole was third in the javelin, also setting a new Siuslaw record with a toss of 133-feet; 4-inches.
NCAA Women’s Softball World Series
The Oregon Softball team is headed for the Women’s College World Series after downing Minnesota in two games over the weekend to sweep its Super Regional series at Howe Field in Eugene. The Ducks will face Florida State Thursday morning in Oklahoma City.
Pac-12 Baseball
Ducks drop two straight
The Oregon baseball team started off Thursday with a win over the visiting Cal Bears, but then dropped two straight, 6-nothing and 5-3 Friday and Saturday at PK Park in Eugene to wrap up the Pac-12 regular season. Oregon finished conference play 18-and-12; in fourth place.
Beavers clinch conference title for second straight year
Oregon State will host their own NCAA regional tournament beginning Friday in Corvallis; this despite losing two of three to USC in Los Angeles over the weekend. The Beavers dropped Friday’s opener 4-2, then came back Saturday to clinch the Pac-12 title two-nothing Saturday night. The Trojans then won Sunday’s game, 3-1.
The Beavers repeated as conference champions with a 23-and-7 record. They’re 42-and-12 overall.
