PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The National Organization for Marriage says it is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to block a federal judge’s order declaring Oregon’s same-sex marriage ban unconstitutional. The National Organization for Marriage, which opposes gay marriage, is seeking a stay of that ruling while it appeals an earlier decision that prohibited the group from defending the marriage ban on behalf of its Oregon members.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A coalition of groups in Oregon is preparing for what they say could be a hard-fought campaign to pass a law granting driving privileges to people who can’t prove they are legal residents. Now that the May primaries are over, they plan to ramp up their outreach and fundraising efforts even more. Unions, immigrant-rights groups and a hospitality industry lobby group have raised $35,000 so far.

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Transportation Department is apologizing for an Interstate 5 highway construction snarl that backed up northbound Memorial Day traffic for at least 10 miles south of Cottage Grove. The Register-Guard reports that a Transportation Department spokesman also notes that construction will still be under way in the area on the July 4 weekend.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Officials expect test results today from the first of two open-air reservoirs that triggered a boil water alert last week. Crews in Portland, Oregon, have drained the water from two open-air reservoirs that triggered a boil water alert last week and are cleaning, filling and testing them. The tests check for the presence of total coliform and generic E. coli bacteria.
