Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A 33-year-old woman accused of mugging elderly people for their wallets and purses has been sentenced in Portland to seven years in prison. Tiffany Smith was arrested in January and convicted of burglary, robbery and theft. KGW reports Smith has a record of drug use and prostitution arrests. Police say her purse-snatching victims included women who were 89 and 90 years old.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A jury has awarded $105,000 to a 59-year-old African-American woman who was falsely accused of shoplifting at the H&M clothing store at the Clackamas Town Center mall at Portland. Brenda Moaning was one of hundreds of shoppers to flock to the opening days of the store in 2011, but she says she was singled out by loss-prevention officers because she is black. Jurors said Moaning didn’t prove racial discrimination, but they said H&M had committed false arrest and acted with malice.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Eugene police say party patrols were very busy last weekend near the University of Oregon campus. Lt. Doug Mozan tells The Register-Guard 58 people were cited for drug and alcohol-related behavior, including open containers of alcohol. Of those cited, 46 were University of Oregon students.

WEST LINN, Ore. (AP) – The West Linn City Council passed a package of amendments yesterday’s meeting to cut red tape. It’s a bundle of changes rolling back city regulations to stimulate economic growth. The Oregonian reports they change the city development code and code variances, the comprehensive plan, land use appeal process and parking rules.
