Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A United Airlines flight from Portland, Oregon, to Houston returned to the airport shortly after takeoff Tuesday morning and landed successfully after the crew was unable to raise the aircraft’s landing gear. Portland International Airport spokesman Steve Johnson says the plane made what looked like a smooth landing, and there were no reports of injuries.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A deputy sheriff on southern Oregon’s coast who spent 45 minutes battling the surf and keeping a teenager’s head above water was described as delirious and losing consciousness when rescuers were finally able to pull the two from 50-degree water. Deputy Terry Brown was hypothermic and hospitalized in critical condition Monday, but he and the 14-year-old are expected to recover.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland City Council has postponed Wednesday’s vote on a road repair fee that would cost households more than $100 per year. Portland Mayor Charlie Hales said Tuesday that the vote will be pushed back to November. Nearly half of Portland’s most traveled roads are in poor or very poor condition, and Hales says the city needs additional revenue to repair them.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A jury awarded $105,000 Monday to a 59-year-old African-American woman who was falsely accused of shoplifting at the H&M clothing store at the Clackamas Town Center mall at Portland. Brenda Moaning, one of hundreds of shoppers to flock to the opening days of the store in May 2011, says she was singled out because she is black.
