PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A spokesman for a terminally ill Oregon woman says she has taken lethal medication prescribed by a doctor and died. Sean Crowley, spokesman from the group Compassion & Choices, said late yesterday that Brittany Maynard was surrounded by family Saturday when she took the medication. She was weeks shy of her 30th birthday.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A three-day strike at a hospital in Springfield has ended. But there’s no sign of a new contract at McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center. The Register-Guard reports striking workers returned to work as planned on Friday morning. The strike began Tuesday morning, to protest working conditions and proposed increases to employee health care costs.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon health officials say a woman who visited West Africa and was hospitalized in Oregon with a fever does not have Ebola. The Centers for Disease Control has advised officials at Providence Milwaukie Hospital that no further testing is required. Officials said Friday that the woman had no known contact with anyone affected with the virus and was considered a low risk for contracting the disease.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – As the second open enrollment period for health insurance under the federal Affordable Care Act nears, Oregon officials say this time the state will avoid an enrollment disaster. The state abandoned its troubled exchange called Cover Oregon in April. It’s moving to the federal portal, HealthCare.Gov, in time for open enrollment – which starts on Nov. 15. Oregon officials say the transition has been glitch-free.
