SISTERS, Ore. (AP) – More snow is falling in central Oregon where rescuers hope to reach a climber who fell while descending Middle Sister mountain northwest of Bend. Deschutes County deputies say it’s snowing hard this morning in Bend and a winter storm warning is in effect for the area. A climbing partner reported that Benjamin Newkirk of Bend fell Wednesday night while they were descending the mountain. Bad weather forced suspension of the search yesterday.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Willamette University student accused of killing a 66-year-old man has appeared in court in Salem. KOIN reports 22-year-old Beau Smith remains held without bail on a murder charge in Marion County. Police arrested the football player early Wednesday near where Michael Hampshire’s was found next to a road off campus.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A Salem woman accused of scamming people in the Portland area has been arrested in Los Angeles where her roommate became suspicious, Googled her and found out she was wanted. The Washington County sheriff’s office says 24-year-old Vicheka Ly will be returned to Hillsboro. The Statesman Journal reports she’s accused of befriending people and then taking cash or running up their credit cards.
HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – Washington County sheriff’s deputies and officers from other agencies helped the U.S. Marshals Service arrest two fugitives. They say Shawn Stock of Beaverton and Cory Johnston of Hillsboro were in a car that sped off yesterday when deputies tried to stop it in Bethany. It crashed into a curb and the suspects were arrested separately.
