PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A traffic backup late yesterday afternoon on Interstate 84 in Portland was one part pre-Thanksgiving holiday crush and one part labor pains. SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A shipping slowdown at West Coast ports over labor negotiations is hurting exports of a record apple crop in Washington. The president of the Washington State Tree Fruit Association in Wenatchee tells the Capital Press the industry is losing tens of millions of dollars a week. Negotiations between terminal operators and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union are scheduled to resume Tuesday.

PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – The past two school years, school hasn’t started in Pendleton until the last bronc has bucked at annual Round-Up rodeo. Now, school officials are asking parents if they should keep the schedule as is for next year and start on Sept. 21 and end June 21? Or, revert to a schedule with earlier starting and ending dates, Aug. 31 and June 1?

PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – A man returned to his home in Pendleton to find 150 gallons of home heating oil fouling his basement due to a mistaken delivery. A spokeswoman with Pendleton Grain Growers says their oil delivery driver went to the wrong house. An Oregon Department of Environmental Quality spokesman says after cleanup work is finished, air quality tests will be done to see if the house is safe to live in.
