EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A 44-year-old Springfield woman shot and wounded by police after pointing a replica gun has been sentenced to probation in a plea agreement. The Register-Guard reports Amanda Gatewood led Springfield police on a chase last August on Interstate 5 before being shot while stopped at gas station. She spent nearly two months in a hospital.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An electrical fire in a 26-story downtown Portland condominium tower yesterday caused an estimated $100,000 in damage. A Portland Fire spokesman says the fire was in an electrical vault room on the 21st floor. The Oregonian reports that more than 25 fire and rescue vehicles were dispatched to the fire.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A tanker truck that was moving juvenile salmon from a failing hatchery to safer waters crashed yesterday, spilling thousands of fish on the side of the McKenzie Highway near Walterville. The Register-Guard reports the driver suffered a broken shoulder and a possible concussion in the crash. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife estimates 11,000 juvenile salmon died.
PASADENA, Calif. (AP) – A Portland beverage company that uses the term “pom” on a pomegranate energy drink has lost a round in court. The makers of POM Wonderful filed suit against Portland-based Pur Beverages, alleging a copyright violation. An appeals court has ordered a lower court to reconsider an injunction against Pur Beverages.
