PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – TriMet tested the first Max train yesterday on the Tilikum Crossing bridge over the Willamette River. The agency says it was a successful test of the first leg of the Portland-Milwaukie light rail transit project. KATU reports the 1,700-foot bridge will carry light rail and streetcar trains, buses, bicyclists and pedestrians, but no private vehicles

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A Eugene-area letter carrier has been sentenced to a year on probation after pleading guilty to failing to deliver nearly 1,000 pieces of mail. The Register-Guard reports that 27-year-old Alex Douma was also ordered Wednesday to pay a $500 fine. Most of the mail was found on two bins on his front porch.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A man has been charged with stealing a total of six older-model Toyotas and Subarus in the Portland area. The Oregonian reports police found John Lorenz III last weekend, slumped over in a stolen Toyota where they also found heroin. They called for medical assistance. A rash of car thefts involving Subarus from the ’90s began in late November in Portland.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – The mother of a terminally ill woman who moved to Oregon to legally end her life with the help of a doctor says California residents shouldn’t have to uproot their lives to have a peaceful death. Debbie Ziegler appeared with lawmakers yesterday to promote legislation allowing doctors to prescribe life-ending medication in California.
