Viking Wrestlers each win one at state meet

All three Siuslaw Wrestlers at the state 4A championship meet had parallel paths over the weekend. The trio, Jose DelaMora at 120 pounds; Kainan Lane at 220; and Dylan Jennings at 285 lost their opening matches Friday, then came back and won their second matches of the day Friday afternoon.

By midday Saturday, though, all three had been eliminated from competition.

College baseball…

Oregon State swept Grambling State in a three-game weekend series at Goss Stadium in Corvallis. The Beavers won 10-7 Friday, then swept G-State 25-3 and 9-2 in a Saturday double header.

In Goleta, California, Oregon took the first two games of a three game series against UC Santa Barbara 5-1 and 11-3 Friday and Saturday, before falling to the Gauchos yesterday one-nothing.

On the basketball court…

It’s been 39 years since Oregon swept the Bay Area schools on the road. They completed that feat yesterday with a 73-70 victory over the Stanford Cardinal. The Ducks improved to 12-5 in conference play with their fourth straight win and have clinched no worse than third place in the Pac-12 headed into their final game Wednesday night in Corvallis against Oregon State.

The Beavers meanwhile, fell to the Cal Bears 73-56 in a rumbling stumbling finish to the game and the bay area road trip. The Beavers fell to 8-9 in conference play, in sixth place with the final Civil War basketball game coming up at home.
