PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A 35-year-old woman has been sentenced to five years of probation after pleading guilty to trying to steal two dogs from a Portland couple’s yard. The Oregonian reports that Jaime Bailey-Latimer did not offer an explanation for her actions while in court yesterday.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon lawmakers have introduced a bill seeking to allow public schools to continue using Native American mascots in certain circumstances. The bill would allow schools to use a Native American mascot if they can come to an agreement with an Oregon tribe. The agreement would have to pass muster with the state Board of Education before taking effect.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a Vancouver, Washington, man has been arrested after a high-speed chase ended in a crash on Interstate 5 near Woodburn. Troopers say the driver was arrested after crashing into some shrubs and driving into a state police patrol vehicle. The driver told troopers he had smoked methamphetamine and marijuana.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A lawsuit has been filed on behalf of two women who say their hands were impaled while using Bodum-brand coffee presses they bought at a Starbucks in Portland. The women’s lawsuit says they suffered deep puncture wounds when the rod of the plunger unit broke through the rubber knob when they pressed down. Starbucks says it will investigate the claims along with Bodum.
