SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Liquor Control Commission is recruiting 11 marijuana compliance specialists in preparation for the Oct. 1 rollout of recreational pot. The Statesman Journal in Salem reports that medical marijuana dispensaries will begin selling pot products to consumers in October and the state will begin accepting permits applications for marijuana businesses Jan. 4.
VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) – Kapowsin Meats is recalling more than 520,000 pounds of pork shipped to Washington, Oregon and Alaska after food inspectors found that it may be contaminated with salmonella. The Columbian reports that the USDA found salmonella in whole hogs for barbecue, associated pork produces and around the business. The company has voluntarily suspended work.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Liquor Control Commission is looking to add as many as 17 new liquor stores. Commissioners voted yesterday to accept proposals starting in October. OLCC officials say the Portland metro area is particularly underserved, with just one liquor store per 25,000 residents compared with 16,000 statewide.
MONROE, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will hold a public meeting for residents near the William Finley Wildlife Refuge to discuss the movements and management of elk. The Corvallis Gazette-Times reports that the meeting will be Sept. 1 in in Monroe. The department is seeking input as well as asking what elk movement patterns they’ve seen during hunts.
