JEFFERSON, Ore. (AP) – The Marion County Sheriff’s office says the 68-year-old mayor of the small town of Idanha has been arrested for possession of methamphetamine. Authorities say Cletus Moore and his passenger, 39-year-old Christopher Kosack, were stopped for a traffic violation in Jefferson Sunday night. A sheriff’s spokesman declined to name the specific traffic violation. They are to appear in court Sept. 28.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Washington woman who took her toddler daughter across state lines for sexual abuse has been sentenced to 25 years in prison. Prosecutors say the woman repeatedly visited the Portland area to have sex with boyfriend. The toddler was often present when the couple had sex and was later included. The Associated Press is withholding the mother’s name to protect the child’s identity.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Crews fighting a large, home-wrecking wildfire south of John Day, Oregon, caught a break as cooler weather, lighter winds and even a bit of rain helped them get ahead of the flames. The forecast calls for mild temperatures all week, with highs in the low-to-mid 80s today and then no more than 70 degrees through Saturday. Overall, the wildfire was about 50 contained yesterday morning.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Army National Guard specialist who helped stop a gunman on a train bound for Paris has returned home. The Oregonian reports that 22-year-old Alek Skarlatos of Roseburg says he’s looking forward to returning to normal life and plans to keep a low profile.
