SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The state of Oregon is asking a Marion County judge whether it must give former Gov. John Kitzhaber’s personal emails to Oracle Corp. The request was filed in the year-old legal dispute over the troubled Cover Oregon health insurance website. Oracle is seeking emails from Kitzhaber’s private Gmail account, which were archived on state servers, but Kitzhaber has threatened to sue if the emails are released. The former governor contends his emails are illegally in the state’s possession.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland neighborhood is rallying around three big sequoias that a developer plans to cut down. Neighbors have gathered at the base of the 150-foot trees since Monday, when a crew hired by the developer arrived with chainsaws. Neighbors say they have been negotiating with the developer for months to buy the property, but were unable to raise the $900,000 sought by Everett Customs Homes.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A notorious sex offender has been sentenced to additional prison time. Frank Milligan was convicted of sexually abusing a boy in Marion County during the late 1990s. A judge Thursday sentenced the 46-year-old to 35 years in prison. They’ll be tacked on to the end of a 30-year sentence from an earlier conviction.
BEND, Ore. (AP) – An activist group in Bend may appeal to force Oregon State University to conduct a long-term plan for property adjacent to its future Cascades campus. The Bulletin reports a three-judge Oregon Court of Appeals panel upheld a previous ruling by land use officials who determined the university should not have to account for the nearby acreage.
