SWEET HOME, Ore. (AP) – State officials are waiting on more rainfall to determine whether Oregon’s mid-valley is out of wildfire season. The Albany Democrat-Herald reports that Craig Pettinger of the Oregon Department of Forestry says the area has seen some rainfall recently, but it’s not enough to declare an end to fire season. A backyard burning ban is still in effect.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) – Federal scientists are investigating an area known as the Cold Water Climate Shield, an area spanning five western states that could support viable populations of native trout species if waters in the region continues their warming trend. They say the area that includes portions of Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Montana and Wyoming.

ALBANY, Ore. (AP) – The city of Albany says its contractors accidentally sent about 3,000 gallons of raw sewage into the Willamette River downstream of Bowman Park last week. The Democrat Herald reports that workers dislodged plugs in old sewer lines that drain into the river, releasing sewage for about two to three hours. City wastewater superintendent Kristin Preston says crews immediately plugged the old lines.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland Trail Blazers rallied from a 21-point, second-half deficit to beat the Utah Jazz 116-111 in overtime last night in a preseason game. Damian Lillard scored 32 points and C.J. McCollum had 26. Maurice Harkless made his first preseason start, replacing Al Farouq Aminu (al-fuh-ROOK’ ah-MEE’-noo).
