PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Wild horse advocates are calling for a stop to one of the largest roundups of wild mustangs in Oregon history. According to the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, the agency on Monday began preparations to gather up to 1,500 wild horses near Lakeview, in southern Oregon. Officials say wild horses negatively impact the environment. Environmentalists say conflicts with livestock are driving the roundup.
SEATTLE (AP) – The Washington state epidemiologist says more people are being tested for E. coli in Washington state as health officials work to track down the source of an outbreak linked to Chipotle restaurants in the Pacific Northwest. The official count of people sickened remains at 22, but Dr. Scott Lindquist says about a dozen more people are being tested for the illness in Washington.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oracle Corp., says the state of Oregon is violating public records laws by failing to turn over the contents of email accounts used by former Gov. John Kitzhaber. In a letter, Oracle asks Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum to order the release of relevant emails from Kitzhaber’s accounts. The controversy stems from a legal battle between Oracle and the state over the troubled Cover Oregon health insurance website.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon state regulators are nearing a decision that will affect millions of dollars in taxes paid by Internet service providers. State lawmakers voted earlier this year to create a new package of tax breaks designed to encourage Internet providers to offer ultrafast gigabit service. But the Legislature was vague about how companies qualify for the tax breaks.
