VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) – The Bonneville Power Administration is expected to release a final environmental impact statement on big plans for a new power line between Washington and Oregon by year end. The Columbian newspapers reports the BPA is working on a plan for a proposed 500-kilovolt transmission line that includes about 80 miles of transmission line across the Columbia River.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Multnomah County Health Department says at least 75 students and up to nine teachers at Klamath Falls elementary school have been sickened with a contagious stomach illness. The Oregonian reports county health officials are still investigating but they suspect a norovirus was responsible.
FLORENCE, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say thieves broke into a remote Florence-area fire station and stole about $1,200 in equipment. The Eugene Register-Guard reports that the Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue says items stolen included two generators, two handheld radios, a heat detector, a chain saw and a computer.
HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. (AP) – Vandals damaged more than 60 vehicles and an inflatable gorilla at a car lot in Happy Valley last week. KATU-TV reports that the Oregon Auto Center says the damage will cost thousands of dollars to repair. The car lot’s giant inflatable gorilla was slashed.
