CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – The Corvallis School District is testing out a new device to make it easier for teachers and others to lock classroom doors in case of a school lockdown or other emergencies. The Gazette-Times says the devices were installed in most classrooms at Adams Elementary last week. The district is testing how well they work before installing them districtwide. Currently, most classroom doors in the district required a key to lock. District officials say that can be hard to do in a stressful situation.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Authorities in Oregon have shut down recreational crab harvesting on the southern Oregon coast after finding high toxin levels. It also closed commercial crabbing in bays in that area. The closure is from Heceta Head to the California border. Dangerous levels of a natural toxin called domoic acid prompted California to delay its coastal Dungeness crab season.

FLORENCE, Ore. (AP) – Police in Florence, Oregon, say two men are dead following a shooting early yesterday. Officers who responded to a report of a shooting found a man dead. They found another man injured inside a residence. He later died at a hospital in Florence. Police say no other individuals are involved. No other details were immediately available.

WOODBURN, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a pickup truck rear-ended a taxi near Woodburn early yesterday, killing a 34-year-old passenger riding in the cab’s back seat. A Trooper says alcohol is being considered as a contributing factor in the crash. Police say Martha Aldama, of Woodburn, died at the scene of the crash.
