SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Data show some Salem households use millions of gallons of water despite calls for conservation amid the drought. The Statesman Journal reports that analysis of city billing data found that five residents used more than a million gallons last year, and 16 households used more than 660,000 gallons. The data comes as the West enters its fifth year of drought.

PRINEVILLE, Ore. (AP) – Officials say data centers in Prineville are replacing wood-product manufacturers as the city’s top water users. The Bend Bulletin reports city of Prineville engineer Eric Klann says Woodgrain Millwork had been the city’s top water user for a long time. But with Apple using more water to build its data center and to regulate the temperature of its computers, Klann says the company has taken the No. 1 spot.

ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) – Four cases of the potentially fatal canine parvovirus have been confirmed in Pacific County in Washington. The Daily Astorian reports that a veterinarian in Seaview, Washington says one puppy died of the virus in Long Beach. Another three dogs have been treated at clinics in Raymond. Officials say dogs can survive with treatment, but the best course of action is vaccination.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The U.S. Coast Guard says a cargo ship that lost steering and ran aground in the Columbia River has been towed to Portland. Petty Officer 3rd Class Amanda Norcross said yesterday that Foss Maritime tugboats got the 550-foot Viking Emerald off the beach and towed it to Portland Saturday night. KOIN-TV says the cargo ship was carrying a load of cars and was on its way from Tacoma, Washington, to Portland.
