Florence Business Closed By Construction License Violations

Florence Hearth and Patio is being forced to close it’s doors after admitting to being in violation of  state contracting laws. In a settlement filed with the Lane County Circuit Court, owner, James Gabriel, must remove all advertising, disconnect all phone numbers associated with his business, and for three years submit annual income reports to the Oregon Department of Justice proving that any income he receives is earned legally.

Gabriel operated Florence Hearth and Patio without receiving the proper licenses through the state’s Construction Contractors Board.  He was first cited in 2012 and told he could not continue to do business until he got licensed.  He admitted breaking the terms of that settlement and was cited again for violations committed in 2013 and 2014.

In addition to closing his business Gabriel must also pay nearly $18,000.00 in restitution.

Spaghetti Fund Raiser Aided Medical Fund

Gallons of sauce and pounds of pasta turned into $11-thousand last week that will help a young teacher dealing with leukemia.

McKenzie Perry was diagnosed the first day of school.

Friends and family members gathered together at the Little Brown Hen Café last Wednesday for a spaghetti feed and silent auction to raise money for Perry and her husband Max.

It was the 11th community fundraiser held at the “Hen” by owner Stacey Brown in the past four years.  Wednesday’s donations bring the total raised through the spaghetti feeds to about $76-thousand in all.   Nearly half of that has been raised in just three events this year.

15th Annual Pounding Breaks Previous Donation Totals

An unintended event broke its 2014 total Saturday when Cindy Wobbe teamed up with KCST for a pounding at Grocery Outlet.  Wobbe had retired last year and hadn’t planned an event for 2015. An anonymous donor changed all that and Wobbe and Coast Radio teamed up once again, with Saturday’s Pounding raising 8,989 pounds of non-perishable food items for the Florence Food Share according to Norma Barton…

“We did just over 8,000 pounds last year, so we broke our record from last year.  So
that’s just awesome. But the best part about the whole thing is that it is going to be
matched with cash by an anonymous donor, we just don’t know how much yet.”

How long will Saturday’s donations last?  According to the Food Share Executive Director…

“We received almost 9,000 pounds and we distribute approximately 2,500 pounds a
day.  So this will last us a little bit more than three days.”

Barton says the Food Share is stocked up on canned vegetables, but are always in need of canned fruits, staples like flour and sugar, carbohydrates including rice and  potato side dishes, mac and cheese, and of course proteins.  Donations can be made at the Food Share itself or in any of the donation boxes located in local stores.
