Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – While it’s too soon to say Oregon’s drought is over, experts say they’re relieved by December’s abundant snowfall. The Capital Press reports that a hydrologist says nearly 7 feet of snow has accumulated at Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood. She says the snow at Timberline Lodge contained 21.5 inches of water on Dec. 29 — already more than the 20 inches measure at the peak snowfall in April 2015.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Authorities have reopened all lanes of Highway 26 near the Oregon Zoo. The busy stretch was closed in both directions yesterday morning after a falling tree dragged down power lines. ODOT asks drivers to remain cautious because power crews are still working on the side of the road.
WOODBURN, Ore. (AP) – Police say a 45-year-old Woodburn man died after his 14-year-old son accidentally ran him over with the car they were working on. Woodburn police say officers began CPR on the man upon arriving. They say he died later of injuries sustained from the accident. The man’s name has not been released.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The National Weather Service has placed most of Oregon under an air stagnation advisory caused by a cold front trapping polluted air in the valleys. The Register-Guard reports that the warning lasts through Monday. Smoke from wood stoves and fireplaces can contribute to the pollution. Authorities say a long period of air stagnation in the Eugene-Springfield area could make air quality much worse and trigger a burning ban.
