KANAB, Utah (AP) — Today’s funeral for the Arizona man killed by law enforcement during the armed takeover of an Oregon wildlife refuge is expected to draw supporters from around the West to a small Utah town. Robert “Lavoy” Finicum was shot during a Jan. 26 traffic stop after authorities say he reached for a gun in his jacket pocket. His death inspired a call for like-minded followers to come to Kanab, Utah, for his funeral today.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — A man convicted of a Josephine County killing at age 14 has been released from the Oregon State Penitentiary. Grants Pass Daily Courier reports that Trevor Walraven, who is now 31, was sentenced to 30 years in prison after he and his older brother carjacked and killed Rogue River lodge owner Bill Hull in 1998. The state has contested the release.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — More than 125 trees recently planted by volunteers along Amazon Creek in Eugene have been ripped out of the ground and thrown into the water by vandals. The Register-Guard reports that city employees noticed the destruction Tuesday, just two weeks after volunteers planted the trees in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Eugene parks official Ryan Turner says he isn’t sure whether the trees will be replanted.

ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) — The Clatsop County Board of Commissioners has hired a new county manager to replace Scott Somers, who resigned last year. The Daily Astorian reports that Cameron Moore, of Illinois, accepted the position this week after being selected by commissioners and other county officials out of three finalists. His employment contract is expected to be approved next week.
