Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The former executive director of a Portland nonprofit is facing charges for allegedly embezzling $144,000 from the group. The Oregonian reports that Herman Bryant was indicted Feb. 1 on theft and other charges related to stolen funds from the Miracles Club, which helps recovering drug addicts and alcoholics.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) – Springfield motorists could face a $50 fine for paying panhandlers, which members of the America Civil Liberties Union say may be unlawful. The Register-Guard reports that members of the City Council yesterday voiced support for an ordinance that would fine drivers and panhandlers for transferring property while on a road or highway.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A federal judge has sentenced a 75-year-old Portland man to a year and a day in prison after authorities said he faked works by well-known artists and sold the knockoffs to a dozen unsuspecting buyers. Prosecutors said a search of Larry Ulvi’s apartment turned up 160 paintings, many done in the style of Mark Tobey, an abstract-expressionist artist who died in 1976.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – A new study by Oregon State University indicates that injuries in the deadly commercial crab fishing industry go largely unreported. OSU assistant professor Laurel Kincl tells the EO Media Group that the fatality rates have been previously reported, but no one appears to have looked into the number of nonfatal injuries.
