CANYON CITY, Ore. (AP) – A coyote hunter has pleaded guilty to illegally taking a wolf in Grant County. Brennon Witty must pay a fine and forfeit the rifle he used to shoot the wolf. Witty reported the incident to authorities.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Lawmakers in the Oregon House have voted in favor of a proposal to double the state’s lodging tax in preparation for the 2021 world track and field championships in Eugene. The Register-Guard reports that the proposal would double the state lodging tax, bringing it from 1 percent to 2 percent. Portland agencies have raised concern, saying local lodging taxes already total 13.5 percent, the highest in the state.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – Sentencing for a defendant in the 2001 Redmond Five murder case has been delayed so the Deschutes County Circuit Court can hold hearings to determine if he is eligible for life without the possibility for parole. Justin Link, now 32, was serving life without the possibility of parole for killing Barbara Thomas, of Redmond when he was 17.

NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) – Public health officials are investigating after an outbreak of norovirus sickened 17 people who ate oysters from Yaquina Bay earlier this month. Officials say all 17 people who ate at restaurants throughout Lincoln County have recovered. One person had been hospitalized. Oregon Oyster Farms, Inc., has issued a recall.
