SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A man who pleaded guilty to a Salem strip club shooting that left one dead and four injured has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole. The Statesman Journal reports that Tomas Mendoza-Moreno has been ordered to spend at least 40 years in prison before he can become eligible for parole. He pleaded guilty to murder and other charges for the shooting last July.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The state is asking a federal appeals court to review a case involving an Oregon State Police trooper found to have used excessive force after he kicked a Eugene motorcyclist. The Register-Guard reports the Oregon Department of Justice is seeking a review of a jury’s finding that Capt. Rob Edwards violated Justin Wilkens’ civil rights in the 2012 incident.
MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A grand jury has cleared a Medford off-duty police officer of wrongdoing in the fatal shooting of a knife-wielding suspect. The Mail Tribune reports the jury ruled that Sgt. Darrell Graham was justified in the January death of Timothy Caruthers.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A former high school teacher accused of groping two students at a Lake Oswego home has been sentenced to two months in jail. The Oregonian reports that Jonathan Peachey was also sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to register as a sex offender. Peachey resigned from West Linn High School in October 2015 after his arrest.
