Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The University of Oregon has paid its police chief $46,000 to leave the job with four months left on her yearly contract. The Oregonian reports Carolyn McDermed left days before a federal judge reconfirmed a $755,000 jury award against her and her department in a whistleblower case. The jury’s decision indicated they believed she retaliated unlawfully against an employee who complained about her leadership, then lied about it on the witness stand.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say two people are injured after a Bend officer responding to an emergency call collided with another vehicle and hit a pedestrian before striking a doughnut shop. The Bend Bulletin reports the officer and the pedestrian were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after the crash on Saturday. Officers say the police SUV’s emergency lights and siren were on at the time.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) – Northwest fisheries managers are creating a response plan should there be a return of warm water conditions biologists say was the main factor in killing 90 percent of adult sockeye salmon returning to the Columbia Basin last summer. The report this spring will suggest ways to cool water temperatures that became lethal for most of the 510,000 sockeye that entered the Columbia River basin to spawn.

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) – Reggie Jackson scored 30 points in another big game against Portland, and the Detroit Pistons beat the Trail Blazers 123-103 last night. Jackson scored 40 points when Detroit beat Portland on Nov. 8. Damian Lillard led the Blazers with 26 points but shot 8 of 22 from the field.
