Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police have cited a man who they say responded to an online ad and agreed to meet someone he thought was a 19-year-old woman for sex in front of the West Linn Police Department. The Oregonian reports that the ad was posted by police as part of a sex trafficking training class at the department. Police say the 40-year-old man’s conversations with an officer were overhead by more than 30 officers attending the training class.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The Lane County Sheriff’s Office finally has enough deputies to have 24-hour patrols in rural areas for the first time in almost 2 years. The Register-Guard reports that the lack of staffing was due to several simultaneous retirements, and sheriff’s officials say recruiting and training new deputies takes longer than a year.
HELENA, Mont. (AP) – The last named defendant in the armed occupation in Oregon hasn’t been arrested, and his family in Montana isn’t giving up his location. Jake Ryan was identified Monday as the 26th person charged in connection with the nearly six-week-long standoff at Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. Ryan’s mother, Roxsanna Ryan, says she doesn’t know where her son is.
BURNS, Ore. (AP) – Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell toured the Burns area Monday and says she wants to bring attention to a success that was overshadowed by the standoff at Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. Jewell says she wants to showcase the Harney County effort to protect the greater sage grouse while avoiding federal regulation.
