Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue and the Western Lane Ambulance District are inching forward to combine administrative services. fire board chair John Scott says the process takes some time but Wednesday evening another “T” had been crossed…
(john scott: cut 715) “We gave approval for the chief and brian over at the ambulance district to proceed in
working together but so far the fire district is on board with it so we’re just kind of waiting for the ambulance district to go ahead and give us a positive sign”…
Scott says the move is not intended to be a cost saving measure per say, but a combination of resources that are already doing the same job. he says the process will streamline administration services and allow for increased efficiency. the Western Lane Ambulance District board meets next Thursday evening and will take the matter up.

The Coquille Indian Tribe is calling for a state lottery campaign to be changed, calling it insensitive to indigenous people.
The Coos Bay World reports that Coquille chairwoman Brenda Meade sent a letter to Oregon Lottery Director Jack Roberts Wednesday calling for the end of a “Lewis and Clark” advertising campaign, which depicts Lewis and Clark discovering “native” lottery terminals.
There are no native people depicted in the ads, which Meade says makes the fictional Oregon appear as a land “ripe for economic exploitation” without competition from indigenous people. She says the ads are supposed to be funny, but highlight that Oregon’s politicians don’t want to share wealth with tribes.
Meade’s grievances come days after Gov. Kate Brown opposed a Coquille casino over concerns about the proliferation of gambling in the state.
