6 Months and No Apparent Problems, so far

It has been nearly 6 months since the legal sales of Marijuana began and according to local law enforcement there has been little if any negative results from sales here in Florence. Police Chief Tom Turner says it has been a relatively quiet introduction.

“We’ve anticipated a lot of issues last year, because now it’s a new thing, and fortunately that has also been very easy for us to accommodate . It has not caused any kind of issues.

Turner says adherence to already established rules have been a help in not seeing any problems with the marijuana roll out.

“One of the things that actually probably created some benefit to us is that we continued to stay with the no smoking ordinances we have everywhere in the city and that prevented probably a lot of issues that we might have had had that been the case.”

And with Rhody days approaching, Chief Turner says there are no new enforcement procedures planned. He says that having a good balance between enforcement and public service to the community is the key to good policing.
