OCHS Meeting Heated

The Thursday meeting of the Oregon coast Humane Society included a lot of contentious speech from both members of the Board and audience members.  According to the Siuslaw News board members announced some unfavorable changes including volunteers  taking animals to the beach for walks.  The Siuslaw News in its article categorized Board President Robert Bare as dismissive and unresponsive to questions and comments from the audience.  The meeting also had a police presence which was attributed to a heated discourse held over from last month’s meeting.

Missing Mother Found

Missing Eugene mother of two was found on Saturday alive and is safe and at home with her family.  Katie Goodnight was found by family members late Saturday.  The Lane County Sheriff’s office is not looking for any further information and according to a press release there is no investigation nor follow up reports forth coming.

Strike Might Be Forthcoming For County Employees

Lane County says that there is an agreement on some basic terms with its over 600 employees represented by Local 2831 of American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, According to the Register Guard though the union has authorized its members to strike because of the county’s proposed wage formula in which the county is only offering a 3% increase and the union is asking for 19.8%.  Negotiations are still ongoing and there is not an actual strike set, but employees could strike by the 15th of October if the two sides cannot agree on all contract negotiations.

County Vehicle On The Block

Lane County Fleet services will be holding a closed bid auction for vehicles that are no longer being used by the county for reasons of age or mileage.  The vehicles include hybrids, sedans, vans, lift trucks, police cars, landscaping equipment and trailers.  Items can be previewed online at www.lanecounty.org/fleetauction.  Bids must be placed between Thursday September 28th and Saturday September, 30th.   All vehicles are being sold as it and no warranties or guarantees are made.
