Pounding Exceeds Expectations
The 18th annual pounding for the Florence Food Share Saturday was deemed a success by it’s organizer Cindy Wobbe. The final count for food was 13,088 pounds, almost 1100 pounds more than their goal, which means that will be matched by just over $26,000 dollars by two local entities. There were also several cash donations throughout the event that will be included in the total tally. In the first 2 hours of the event a record 7200 pounds had passed through the Grocery Outlet. Executive Director of the Florence Food Share, Norma Barton, says they are expecting 300 to 400 people through the doors prior to Thursday. Most of whom will be hoping for a turkey. According to Barton they received enough donations to purchase 300 turkeys and that is in addition to the ones that were donated Saturday. During the Pounding Grocery Outlet sold out of frozen birds, but still had fresh ones to sell. Barton also says she is incredibly grateful for the community’s support
