November Bond For School Facility Upgrades?

The Siuslaw School District has decided to not seek a May bond election in order to give the community more time to input suggestions regarding upgrades and new facilities for Siuslaw schools.  The board feels that even with the amount of information that many in the community have received it is important to make sure that more of the community becomes involved in the process.  Instead the board is considering a November bond election with intent to disseminate the information regarding facility needs and the process for determining those needs.  The duties of the steering committee in charge of the process has been extended by the board and will continue to engage the community during the upcoming months.

Accident Closes Down 126…Again

Portions of 126 continue to plague drivers as another vehicle accident with a fatality occurred on Friday afternoon shutting down portions of the road to one lane of traffic.  A white Dodge van driven by Sharon Lee Miller of Mt. Angel left the highway in a corner and hit a tree on the passenger side.  Killing the passenger 83 year old Charles Eugene Miller. The accident happened around 2:30 on Friday afternoon.  And the road was closed for about a half an hour while Lane County Fire authority and Oregon Department of Transportation assisted in efforts to clear the scene.  This occurred just past Walton Store at Milepost 33. This is the second fatality in a month on the road.

Campground Closed Til May

Lane County’s Harbor Vista Campground is closed and will remain closed until May 23rd of 2018 while the construction of a new sewer system is added.  The city awarded the project to Ray Wells Construction and will cost just over 638 thousand dollars to complete.  An 8 inch sewer line will be installed along with a 4 inch pressure line, 16 manholes and 40 sanitary sewer stations with a sewer pump station.  Clearing a section of the property for the sewer pump station is expected to begin today.  The property is expected to be open by the memorial day weekend and will have full water, sewer and electric services.
