Florence Man Arrested After 3 Years

A Florence man who was investigated 3 years ago after images of child pornography were found on his ipad has still not faced prosecution.  The register guard is reporting that 21 year old Logan Alexander Martin wasn’t arrested until this week.  The case had been turned over to the Oregon Department of Justice in part because Florence police do not employ a forensic analyst and the delay in arrest and prosecution is due in part to the overload of cases.  Martin was 19 in 2015 when he left his Ipad with two friends who discovered the child pornography and called police.  It took the ODOJ two years to complete an investigation and return its findings to the Florence Police Department.  Martin has been charged with first degree encouraging of child sexual abuse.

End of Life Discussion Sunday

This Sunday at the Bromley room in the Siuslaw Public Library there will be a discussion on end of life options.  End of life options advocate and educator Bruce Yelle will be speaking about end of life care and about his own personal dealings with the medical system as it relates to the Oregon laws on End of Life options.  Yelle has been traveling around the state informing people about the choices that are available and how to protect their wishes when the time comes.

“I’m teaching them how to educate on Senior Advocacy and End of Life Education about what we have now and what it is going to be.”

Yelle believes that the system could be more compassionate towards seniors and those suffering with terminal illnesses and is working with Oregon legislators to revise the current end of life law in the state.  The event will begin at 1pm on Sunday and all are welcome.

Bridge Closure Delayed

The Scheduled closure of the Isthmus Slough bridge this weekend has been postponed.  Contractors say they will need dry weather to perform painting on part of the drawbridge section of the structure and rain is forecast for the weekend.  According to the Oregon Department of Transportation the closure will be postponed until next weekend and will be closed from 8pm on Friday, June 15th through 6 am Monday, June 18th.  ODOT will send out reminders of the closure and the detour route again next week.
