Bridge Work Continues
This week Crews are working on the new sidewalk improvements on the north side of the Siuslaw River Bridge. Southbound U.S. 101 will have a temporary left lane merge beginning just south of 2nd Street, with traffic merged into one lane just before Kingwood Street (at Dairy Queen). Traffic will remain in this configuration for approximately 3 – 4 weeks while the sidewalk is under construction. Crews will also be working on pouring the remaining bridge rail curb on the west side of the bridge. Additional remaining work includes installing new expansion joints, constructing new sidewalk improvements on the north side next to Old Town Way, and new sidewalk ramps on the south end of the bridge. Be prepared for traffic delays.
New Crabbing Rules on Port Docks
After a series of complaints from residents that live aboard their boats at the port of Siuslaw docks, the port has decided to limit where crabbers can set their pots. Live-aboard residents have complained that they have arrived back to their homes only to find beverage containers stacked along the railings of their boats, crab pots tied to rented slips and trash left on the docks. The port has decided to limit the space for crabbing to the area behind ICM and Moe’s restaurants. And area that is exclusively for visiting and residential boating will be off limits to crabbers.
