New Speed Zone

If your travels take you down Rhododendron drive between Heceta Beach Road and Lighthouse Way you soon will notice a new speed limit sign.  Beginning Tuesday, the 26th , speed will be decreased to 40 miles per hour. The Oregon Department of Transportation, at the behest of the city completed a speed zone investigation and has determined that a lower speed is best considering road use density and the proximity of residential units along that stretch of road.  On a daily basis nearly 3000 vehicles move along the roadway in that area.  The survey was conducted during May of 2018 while school was still in session and found that the average speed for 85% of the traffic was 44 miles per hour.  One of the determining factors though for the decrease in speed was the 10 crashes reported in 2016.  Speed zones considerable optimal conditions for the roadway and driving conditions should dictate actual speeds.
