Trapp To Retire as Lane County Sheriff
Lane County Sheriff, Byron Trapp announced yesterday that he will be stepping down from his post and officially retiring as Sheriff. The effective date will be April 16th. Trapp has served as Lane County Sheriff for the last four years and he told Coast Radio News that he never planned for this to be a long term position for him.
“My intention never was to be a long serving sheriff, but rather to really focus on internal management growth and development to ensure that the supervisory management and executive staff were as equipped as possible, competent and leadership in leadership to be able to carry the office forward.”
Trapp feels confident that he is leaving the office with his goals accomplished. He says at 53 he knows that people say it is a little young to retire, but he says police work takes its toll. Trapp has had 4 back surgeries and is due for another and he says it will be nice to focus on that without the pressure to get back on the job. He says he recommended Chief Deputy Cliff Harold to take over as Sheriff. Harold has been employed by the Lane County Sheriff’s Department for 21 years. Trapp also says he has no further political aspirations. He says he will focus on rest and grandchildren.

The Wall representative Tim Tetz spoke to the crowd in front of the field where the wall will set.
“And it’s gonna stretch out to each cone on either end 385 feet, and on it are gonna be the names of the men and women who gave so much of their lives so that we could be here and be free today”
The wall will be open through Sunday at 3pm 24 hours a day and is located on the field behind the High School Football stadium at Siuslaw Middle School.
