Scammers At It Again; Gas Prices Dip Again; ODFW Sets Fishing Restrictions; Van Fans Gather

Scammers At It Again

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that scammers are once again targeting citizens by claiming to be Sheriff’s office employees.  Scammers are telling residents that there is a warrant out for their arrest and can settle the warrant by paying the fine associated with it.  Sgt. Carrie Carver with Lane County says that the sheriff’s department does not make calls regarding warrants and that if you receive a call requesting money from someone claiming to be a sheriff’s employee you should hang up immediately and do not engage the caller.  Carver says if you do fall victim to a phone scam contact local law enforcement immediately.  If you did not lose money there is no need to call and report it.

Gas Prices Dip Again

For the second week in a row Oregon gas prices have fallen while the Midwest and east coast saw slight increases.  The national average for regular gas increased 4 cents while Oregon slipped a penny.  Here on the coast Florence prices have dropped 4 cents on average in the last week with the price of regular gas is at $2.88 a gallon.  Marie Dodds with AAA Oregon says that July should see slight decreases even with the price of crude rising slightly.

ODFW Sets Fishing Restrictions

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has placed restrictions on wild fall Chinook salmon for the second year in a row.  In a release issued yesterday the ODFW says poor forecasted returns this year have prompted the restrictions.  The Siuslaw River was not specifically mentioned in the release, it merely says coastal rivers.  Christine Mallett with ODFW says it is important to protect the wild populations.  Restrictions are set to go in place on August 1st for much of the state though some restrictions will not take effect until September first.
