Body Discovered; School Board to Hold Executive Sessions; Yachats Town Hall; Fire Season Reminder

Body Discovered

A person described only as a 41 year old transient male was found behind the Safeway on Highway 101.  According to Florence Police they received notice of a man down behind the store at 8:39 pm on Wednesday.  Commander John Pitcher release the information saying that they found no signs of injury and no indication foul play was noticed in the discovery.  The body has been released to the Medical Examiner’s office to determine the cause of death.  Police have not released the name of the deceased pending notification of next of kin.

School Board to Hold Executive Sessions

The Siuslaw School District board will meet on Wednesday the 31st of July.  On their agenda are three separate executive sessions, each to consider the dismissal or disciplining of, or to hear complaints or charges brought against, a public officer, employee, staff member or agent, unless he or she requests an open meeting.  If action is to be taken the board will go into open session after each consideration.  The board will also discuss several intergovernmental agreements regarding the Department of Motor Vehicle and Bus Driver testing.  The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 pm Wednesday.

Yachats Town Hall

Senator Arnie Roblan and Representative Caddy McKeown will be holding a town hall type meeting in Yachats on Saturday August3rd.  The meeting will be held from 10 until noon that day at the Yachats Commons Pavilion on Highway 101.

Fire Season Reminder

A reminder that it is Fire Season.  According to Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue they have responded to several small fires in recent days despite the current Moderate level for fire danger the lack of significant rainfall means conditions could quickly change. SVFR says there are more than 500 communities in the Northwest that are more vulnerable to fire than the one that swept through Paradise California last season.
