Road Work Continues; Chamber Seeking New Event Coordinator; Museum Looking for Sponsorships; Dune Fest

Road Work Continues

Street upgrades will continue this week as crews move to make an August second deadline.  Work has been completed on 10th and 11th streets off of Spruce and are working northward on 23rd street.  Chip and seal work begins today with the section of Rhododendron Drive from Fawn View Lane to Sebastian Street and on Spruce from 25th to 32nd Streets and 32nd Street between Spruce and Redwood.  Redwood Street between 32nd and 345th Streets and 42nd Street from Spruce to Highway 101.  Residents are asked to find alternate routes through August 1st.  Flaggers will be on site and caution is required as motorists are asked to stay slow and be attentive.

Chamber Seeking New Event Coordinator

The Florence Area Chamber of Commerce is again looking to hire an event coordinator.  Executive Director Bettina Hannigan announced that Rue Schertell is leaving the chamber and moving out of the area.  Hannigan says it is for a family necessity and that a search has begun for a new coordinator.

Museum Looking for Sponsorships

Saturday August 24th the Oregon Coast Military Museum will hold its 2nd annual golf tournament.  The event will be held at Florence Golf Links and the 18 hole shotgun tournament will begin at 9am.  The event will feature 4 hole-in-one contests with a chance at winning a Ford F150 outfitted with a Smoker Craft Boat, a set of Callaway Irons, an LED Flat Panel Television and Roundtrip domestic airfare for two.  There will also be a putting contest with the chance to win $2500.  Proceeds from the event go to support the Oregon Coast Military Museum.  The OCMM is currently looking for additional sponsors and raffle prizes.

Dune Fest

Yesterday marked the end of the 6 day Dunefest in Winchester Bay.  Thousands of ATV enthusiasts made the trek to the annual event featuring drag races, freestyle races, kids activities and food and music.  Saturday night audiences were treated to an Aerosmith tribute band along with a fireworks show.  The annual event brings in visitors from around the country.
