Manhunt Continues

Lane County Sheriff’s Department is still seeking the man they say shot someone south of Florence on Highway 101.  35 year old Gene Manuel Joseph is still believed to be in the Florence area according to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.  The shooting occurred on July 29^th.  The victim arrived at Peace Harbor hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.  Joseph is described as a white male about 5 feet 10 inches tall, and weighs about 200 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.  He is also believed to have long hair and a black beard.  The sheriff’s office is asking for help if anyone has seen him or knows his whereabouts, but not to come in contact or try to apprehend.  He is considered armed and dangerous.

Hit and Run Traffic Accident

Yesterday afternoon a hit and run accident backed up traffic on highway 101 northbound at Fred Meyer. One man was injured and police have said that it was a hit and run, but further details were not available.  Police are investigating the matter and will release more information when it is available.

National Night Out Well Attended

Last night Miller Park was filled with residents who participated in the city’s second annual National Night Out.  People were treated to live jazz music, hotdogs and hamburgers, and activities for young and old.  There were also several non-profits that participated in the event including Siuslaw Outreach Services.  Organizers were pleased with the turnout.

Gas Prices Still Going Down

Florence gas prices are right in line with the national average.  Average price for a regular gallon of gas in Florence is at $2.71 a gallon which mirrors the national price.  Gas slipped two cents a gallon in Oregon over the last week and 3 cents a gallon nationwide.  Marie Dodds with AAA Oregon says drivers can expect the downward trend to continue through August.  Oregon joins 40 other states in lower prices this week.   Drivers, according to AAA, are paying less than the same time last year.
