Outage Sparks Concern in Florence; Urgent Care to Open; Miller Park Work Continues

Outage Sparks Concern in Florence

A major telecommunications outage in the Portland area had trickle-down effects in Florence.  People on the AT&T network yesterday experienced problems with phone and internet services and even had difficulty texting.  The cause for the outage has not been released and services may still be affected today.  According to outage maps Florence, Eugene, Salem, and Portland are still experiencing problems, but the outage in Coos Bay seems to have been fixed.  Some homes that use AT&T for phone service have no 9-1-1 services.  AT&T’s website says the problem has been repaired, but independent websites that track outages still have the aforementioned cities as problem areas.

Urgent Care to Open

Beginning next Friday, August 16, 2019, Nova Health, formerly Eugene Urgent Care will begin offering urgent care services at its location in Florence.  In addition to providing urgent care, the facility will also offer complimentary blood pressure checks during regular business hours.  According to clinic manager, Brittany Elliot, Nova Health is committed to offering a full spectrum of affordable patient care services and access to the highest quality providers.

Miller Park Work Continues

Work on the new concession and restroom building at Miller park is moving forward.  On Wednesday the concrete foundation was poured.  Completion date for the project has been delayed due to the masonry contractor pulling their bid.  The city is now working with the next lowest bidder and hopes that the walls will begin construction in the next couple weeks.  In addition to the new building the city will also be relocating two softball fields and develop a new soccer field.  A sidewalk on Oak Street from 20th Street to the parking lot is also planned.
