ReVision Florence Delays Tracked to Previous Upgrades
Some of the delays associated with the ReVision Florence project have been due to incomplete deconstruction from previous road and sidewalk upgrades performed decades ago according to city project manager Megan Messmer. In an update given to the Florence Kiwanis club on Wednesday Messmer said while tearing up the road and sidewalks they discovered sections of road and portions of concrete that were buried beneath the surface causing additional man hours to remove the old work. In recent days crews have been very active in completing the sidewalk and curb portion of the project along Highway 101. Messmer says there is still some utility work that needs to be completed before the existing utility poles can be removed. Century Link still has to move its communication cables. There will still be 3 overhead power lines along the section of roadway from the 126/101 intersection to the Siuslaw River Bridge, but all other utilities will be removed.
Oregon is 9th Smartest Among States
If you ever wondered how smart Oregonians are, a new poll released by SafeHome.org ranks Oregon as the 9th smartest state in America. They compiled information for the U.S. Census Bureau, the U.S. Department of Education, the College Board, and ACT. Rankings were determined by analyzing several categories in each state including college degree levels and college prep test scores. Other states in the top ten include New Jersey, Utah, North Carolina and Massachusetts. If you were wondering where the top 10 dumbest states were….Idaho topped the list followed by Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, and Louisiana.
Free Fishing
If you like to fish but just haven’t bothered to get your license, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is offering another chance to get “hooked.” The Friday and Saturday following Thanksgiving are designated free fishing days by ODFW which means that anywhere crabbing, clamming and fishing are open you can fish without needing a license or a tag. All other rules regarding size and limits apply. ODFW is also interested in how you like their new website MYODFW.COM. There is a 5 minute survey on the site.
River House Inn Recognized
Florence’s River House Inn has been named one of the top 100 Best Destinations in Oregon. There are more than 9000 destinations in Oregon. Last year the River House Inn was ranked the #2 destination in Lane County behind Eugene’s Inn at the 5th. Full rankings will be revealed in Portland on December 16th.
