Razor Clamming Closed

The Oregon department of Fish and wildlife has closed all commercial and recreational razor clamming along the entire coast of Oregon.  Recent tests show the levels of the marine biotoxin domoic acid at extremely high levels and unsafe for human consumption.  Mussel harvesting is still open along the central coast, but is closed from Bandon to the California border.  Bay clams and crab are open for recreational harvesters along the entire Oregon Coast.

Construction 101

Crews are finishing up sidewalk construction and are preparing for paving along highway 101.  The connecting of side streets was scheduled to begin last week, but was postponed.  Dates and times for that paving will be forthcoming.  The Oregon Department of Transportation, in their weekly briefing is calling for paving during the day this week, and more details will be released when available.  Crews were working on the corner of Highway 101 and 126 preparing to finish up the curbs and gutters on that intersection.  Paving for the 101 126 corner will be scheduled at a later date.

Flu Update

The Oregon Health Authority is reporting that flu cases or flu-like cases are following a similar trend to last year as far as amount of reported cases, but the increase is coming about three weeks ahead of last year’s cases.  In the state there were a total of 14 hospitalizations associated with flu-like symptoms and a 5% increase of cases over last week’s report.  OHA reminds people to wash their hands and stay home if you are experiencing flu-like conditions and that it is not too late to get a flu shot.
