Siuslaw Basketball

The Cottage Grove Lions hosted the Siuslaw Vikings on Friday night and it was a wild one.  The Viking boys went back and forth with the Lions taking the game to overtime.  Sophomore Chad Hughes only had 6 points on the night in regulation, but with two seconds remaining in overtime Hughes  connected on a 5 ft jumper to defeat the Lions for a final score of 56 -54.  Sophomore Brody Terry led all Vikings with 16.  The Viking girls were not as fortunate in the late game where they were outgunned 63-31. Senior Mia Collins led the Vikings with 16.

Nick Lutz Invitational

On the mats the Siuslaw Vikings hosted 21 schools for the Nick Lutz Invitational. For the boys Yoskar Delamora, Mason Buss, and Elijah LaCossee all posted first place victories in their weight classes and Ryan Jennings and Matthew Horillo posted second place finishes.  Christian Newlan finished in third place in the 195 weight class. Siuslaw scored a first place team finish with 168 total points.  For the Viking girls Bailey Overton finished with a First Place win over Alexus Nisick-Besio of Churchill in the 120 pound class and Hayden Muller took the top spot in the 135 pound class defeating all of her opponents by fall.  Viking Girls finished as a team in 4th place.

College Hoop Recap

The Oregon Ducks pulled out an overtime victory in Seattle on Saturday edging the Huskies 64-61.  Payton Pritchard scored 22 for the Ducks.

 

The Oregon State Beavers were in Pullman to face the Washington State Cougars.  The Cougars handed the Beavers their second straight loss on the road 89-76

 

The Lady Ducks were also on the court Saturday at Matthew Knight Arena where they rolled over the Golden Bears of California 105-55.  Satou Sabally shined with a 31 point effort.  4 other Ducks were in double figures.

 

The OSU Ladies had two matches over the weekend.  On Friday they hosted the Cal Bears in an 81-44 rout.  4 Beavers were in double figures.  Destiny Slocum led the team with 15.  On Sunday Stanford proved to be too much for the Beavers on Sunday 61-58.  Destiny Slocum led the Beavers with 26.
