Fall Sports Schedules In Place, Despite Warning From Governor

The future of fall sports is up in the air with the announcement from Governor Kate Brown that there can be no live sporting events with audiences until a vaccine for COVID-19 is found.  This is disconcerting for many college and high school athletes as the search for a cure could possibly take years.  Brown said the Oregon Health Authority is encouraging organizers of events and sports cancel all upcoming events at least through September.  The hopes are that those recommendations will change if virus numbers fall significantly.  OSAA has prepared schedules for football and cross country as well as volleyball.  The Siuslaw Vikings are scheduled to play in the Sweet Home Jamboree on August 27th, but under the new guidelines that tournament will likely not be played.  Siuslaw football is set to open on September 4th at South Umpqua.  Siuslaw Cross Country’s first event is the Spartan XC invite scheduled for Saturday September 5th.
