Vikings Hit the Field; Pac-12 Concerns

Vikings Hit the Field

Siuslaw Viking football hopefuls were on the field yesterday for the first time.  Coach Sam Johnson sported a freshly shave face and he and several other coaches worked with students.  Social distancing rules applied for the workout as the team was put through drills including sprinting and running.  There is still hope that the team will be allowed to play this fall, that depending on the path that COVID-19 takes over the next several weeks.

Pac-12 Concerns

Pac-12 schools are wondering what the season will look like.  Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott says with less than 8 weeks before the start of the season, COVID-19 numbers are certainly putting a question mark on the season.  Scott says there are several contingencies in place including a spring season or a conference only season.  At the same time Scott reported that severe cuts had to be made to staffing and the Pac-12 Network is in jeopardy causing some members of the Pac-12 CEO group to consider buying out the remainder of Scott’s contract which is set to end in 2022.  Part of the reason is that 5-10 percent pay cuts were made that affected many staff members and even though Scott reportedly took a 12 percent cut, he is still making about 4.5 million dollars a year.
