Vikings Boys Grab Sky-Em Championship, Girls Take Second
5 Viking men’s cross country runners placed in the top ten slots in this afternoons Sky-Em Championships. Senior Chad Hughes took second place overall with a time of 16:42.1, 17 seconds behind Marshfield’s Alex Garcia-silver. Junior Sam Ulrich finished in third place with a time of 17:14.8 followed by Kyle Hughes in 6th, Braydon Linton in 8th and Jacob Blankenship in 10th place. Sophomore Talan Ross finished in 11th place. Coach Chris Johnson said even though the boys came out on top, it was a little lackluster on their part.
“We won fairly easily, but I think we know we can run a whole lot better next week and are going to have to if we’re going to contend for another State Championship.”
On the ladies side Rylee Colton took the top spot in the 5000 meter run with a time of 19:30.7. Finishing out the top ten were Corduroy Holbrook in 7th place, Jane Lacouture in 9th and Maya Wells in the 10th spot. Johnson said the team knew what was at stake.
“The girls I think were a little scare, a little nervous, it’s a big deal, I have 3 freshman on the team so they were a little shaky but we got it done we made it.”
Viking Cross Country takes the top spot in the men’s 5000k and the ladies take the second place spot behind Marist both teams will head to the State Championships on Saturday November 6th.
Viking Football
Tonight the Siuslaw Viking will find out if they take the division championship in football as they travel to Junction City to fact the Tigers. The Viks hope to finish the season with an 8-0 record while Junction City will be looking for a share of the top spot. Game coverage will begin at 6:45 on KCST and will be streaming live on the station’s Facebook page.
Viking Volleyball
The Viking Volleyball team will be in North Marion for the first round of the playoffs. North Marion sits atop the tri-valley conference and is ranked #11 in the OSAA rankings. Siuslaw is ranked 8th.
