Miller Leaving SVFR for State Post
Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue will be losing its Fire Marshall. Chief Michael Schick announced yesterday that FM Tony Miller has accepted a position with the state of Oregon as a deputy Fire Marshall.
“He is going to be in charge of Polk and Yamhill counties to the north of us. It’s just a great opportunity for him, it’s a huge advancement in his career.”
Schick says this will leave a hole in Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue. SVFR will now have to count on the Deputy State Fire Marshall for Lane County, Kristina Deschaine. Deschaine covers the entirety of Lane County, but Schick says when needed she will be available.
“She’s here to help us and certainly if we have a large fire or a fatality fire she will be right there helping us.”
Miller’s last day will be this Friday. Miller began his fire career in 2014 as a volunteer and worked diligently to achieve Fire Marshall status. Chief Schick says they hope to be able to find a replacement for Miller and will be posting the position shortly.
